How it all started...

Historically, Mountainside Church of Christ traces its roots to the American Restoration Movement, which began in the late 18th and early 19th century, which made its way to New Mexico in the early 1900s. This is when a man named Ike Talley moved to Albuquerque and began a Church of Christ in his home in 1914. This small home church grew into the first official church of Christ in the city, the Fifth and Marble Church.

Talley believed that new congregations should be built wherever new housing additions were being developed, and so the Northside Church was established in 1940. The Northside Church then established the Northeast Heights Church in 1954. This small congregation of fifty-five members met at a building on the corner of Indian School Road and Pennsylvania Street and was known as Inez Church of Christ and later as Pennsylvania Street Church of Christ.

In 1986, the congregation, numbering about 300 members moved into a 22,000 square foot building at the corner of Indian School Road and Chelwood Park. The name of the church was changed to Mountainside Church of Christ, and the first service was held on February 16, 1986.

Expanding the vision...

For nearly forty years, Mountainside has striven to be a Christ-centered and accountable family with the desire to bring HOPE to our members and our community through God's Word, through our relationships with each other and our community, and through our sacrifice and service to each person and family we encounter.

Where we are headed...

We look forward to continuing to walk in faithfulness to meet these obligations, both now and in the future; as we long and wait for our hope to be realized by the return of Jesus Christ, we eagerly search for ways to participate in His Kingdom and Will being done here on earth, just as it is in Heaven.
