Meet the Ministers
We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

Brett began his role as Preaching Minister for Mountainside in September of 2024 after serving as our youth minister for the previous three years. He was called to full time ministry after a 25 year career in public education as a high school English teacher and assistant principal. He and his wife Jacque are excited to see how God will use them in this new role to serve His people at Mountainside and our neighbors. Brett has an MA in Educational Leadership and is enrolled at Harding School of Theology where he is pursuing a Master’s in Christian Ministry. He loves studying God’s word and inviting others to inhabit the text with him to experience God’s work in their lives so they can share it with others.

During this time he married Jessie, his high school sweetheart, and began interning at the Christian Student Center. Garrett also serves as a deacon and is on the board of directors for Ponderosa Christian Camp. He and Jessie have 6 children Ethan, Shane, Timothy, Jace, Serenity, and Jaylee. Carson Tate
Campus Minister for the University of New Mexico
Carson Tate spent two years in Albuquerque working full time with Garrett Schmille at the Christian Student Center at UNM. Feeling the call to ministry, Carson moved to Texas and enrolled in the Sunset International Bible Institute to better equip himself for a life in service to the Lord. While finishing his bachelors at the institute, Carson also mentored young men and women who were training to be ministry apprentices. He fell in love with one of his fellow mentors, Jessica. In June of 2024, Carson and Jessica married, moved to Albuquerque, and Carson took on the role of campus ministry director at the Christian Student Center. They are now expecting their first child, due in April 2025. Carson and Jessica Tate are still settling in, but are excited to continue making friends, hosting movie nights, and telling college students about Jesus.
