Isaac's Obedience before God

We often want to focus on Isaac's lie in Genesis 26.  In so doing we miss the fact that when God called on him to stay in the land and weather the famine, Isaac obeyed.  So then, were Isaac's troubles at this time (26:17-21) a result of his sin, or his obedience?  We all know that God challenges us by putting us through trials.  He brings on us only what He knows we can handle, and we turn out stronger as a result.  God allowed Isaac to face trials, but He also gave Isaac many blessings; not in spite of his sin, but because of his obedience and faithfulness.
