Fulfilling the Great Promise
In Genesis 12:1-3, God revealed his great promise to Abraham. As time passed, the promise was passed on to Abraham’s son Isaac and his grandson Jacob. In Genesis 32, Jacob led his family, consisting of four wives, eleven sons, and a daughter, from Haran back to Canaan, the land God had promised to him (Genesis 28:13-15). The beginning of the nation was taking shape, as eleven sons of Israel have been born. Now they must obtain property in some way, that Israel will have a foothold in the Promised Land.
